What does Charismatic mean? The word "charismatic" comes from the Greek word "charisma", which means gift. "Charismatic" means one who has received the gift. What is the Catholic Charismatic Renewal? It is a movement within the Catholic Church in which Christians come together, in the name of Jesus and through the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to find spiritual nourishment; to pray and worship; and to evangelize and serve others. What is the Life in the Spirit Seminar? The LSS aims to initiate a person to participate in the Charismatic Renewal, and make one grow in this new life in the Spirit, through involvement in the small charismatic community, so that one may become an active and fruitful Christian. One of the highlights of the LSS is the "Baptism in the Spirit". What is the Baptism in the Spirit? It is a new powerful release and experience of the Holy Spirit, already pressent within us through the sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation. What is the biblical basis of the "Baptism in the Spirit"? a. In Acts 1:5, "...for John baptized with water, but you, not many days from now, will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." b. In Luke 3:16, "...so John declared before them all, I will baptize with water, but someone is coming, someone who is more powerful than I am... he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire..." |
The PCJ Catholic Charismatic Communtiy (PCJCC) has been around for as long as the PCJ parish itself, in existence for at least 16 years. Having seen the need to promote the spiritual renewal in the parish, the PCJCC through the support of its parish priest, began sponsoring Life in the Spirit seminars (LSS). Many of those actively serving the parish today were at one time participants of the LSS and members of the charismatic renewal movement. Members have come and gone to serve in other church work but the goals and the commitment of the PCJCC has remained the same -- emphasis on receiving the sacraments with activities geared toward increasing the interest of people in church activities. Monday prayer meetings foster a deeper appreciation of Christ's presence in our lives through praise and worship and talks on spiritual renewal and community life. Apart from tri-monthly weekend renewal seminars we also have Saturday Bible study and outreach activities. The PCJCC is composed of the council of elders, the pastoral team, the core members which make up the various ministries and all the community members. | |
